My approach reaches far back into the rehearsal room.

I prefer to get to know a band's rehearsal space and possibly attend a live performance before sitting down at the table to discuss studio work.

I find that, in music and life in general, performance and feeling are everything.

For this reason I prefer recordings where the band members all play in the same room, together. The single musician needs to sit naturally within the mix and this is eased by a live performance.

I can automate faders, set variable compressor thresholds and even tune instruments, but my machines will never be as good as a Human Being playing its soul out.
